What is the Pouch/Dumpling bag?
If you’re into fashion like I am, I’m sure by now you’ve seen the latest pouch bag trend. It’s all over Instagram and featured on @Amrezy page. This bag was originally created in 2018 by Daniel Lee of the luxury fashion house Bogette Veneta. The Pouch bag, also called Dumpling bag, is not a crossbody, satchel, or tote like the traditional bags we are used to. It has no dimension, but rather it creases, and forms to the touch. The original Pouch bag is made out of butter calf leather which creates voluminous folds. The pouch bag retails between $1,200 to $3,600 varying on the size, style, texture, and details. Recent styles include straps, chain details, fringe, and more.
How to Style?
Before figuring out how to style this, it’s important to know what your personal style is. Are you the chic fashion style, the vintage fashion style, the bohemian fashion style, the sexy fashion style, or the artsy fashion style? There are tons of different fashion styles and you may be more than one like I am. Although my style changes based on different times in my life, I’ve always been a mix of chic, sexy, and sophisticated. Knowing these things will help you figure out where to start. See some examples below.
The Artsy Fashion Style — this style is for the person who doesn’t go by any fashion rules, they make their own style. They usually are very experimental with colors, textures, patterns and sometimes mixed all at once. So, if you fall into this style maybe you go for a bold color bag with some embellishments. The opportunities are endless because you make your own statement, there are no rules to follow.
The Sexy Fashion Style — this style is for the person who knows their best features, body type, and knows who to accentuate it. They usually draw attention to themselves by the opposite sex by revealing some skin. However, I think there are different levels to this. You can have a sexy fashion style but still cover up some skin leave some to the imagination. But, if you are in this style based on you body type maybe you wear a fitted dress that shows off your curves and some legs. Possibly a sexy little black dress and you pair it with a mini black pouch bag with a gold chain and some pointy open toe heels.
The Chic Fashion Style — this style is for the person who is always trendy and fashionable. They usually have clothes that are tailored fit and look very classy. This style is a mix of casual but with a little more edge. Below are photos that I would say fall into the chic fashion style. I’m wearing an off white denim dress with a belt to accentuate my waist which gives it a little bit of that tailored look. Also, on trend I have the clear point heels and the pouch bag.
Why you should invest in this bag!
This bag comes in varying sizes, colors, textures, and styles. It’s made out of the softest full grain high quality leathers, one of the most luxurious leathers. But like most luxury bags, this is an investment one that you make knowing that you will at least get an ROI (return on investment) which in this case is really like getting the most wear out of it. The decision is ultimately up to you whether or not you want to invest thousands into a bag that is trendy. I think it crucial to at least try it out before fully committing to a 2-3 thousand dollar bag. Which is why I have found some budget friendly and animal cruelty alternatives from Amazon.
The Budget Friendly Alternative
I love luxuries pieces especially accessories but I prefer splurging on classic, time capsule pieces instead, this is why I have opted for the budget friendly alternative of the pouch bag. The two below are from Amazon . They come in a small and oversized size. They also come in colors beige, black, khaki, and yellow. The great benefit is that if you’re someone who is vegan or trying to chose cruelty free products/items this may be a better choice. It’a made with PU leather which is an artificial leather made out of thermoplastic polymer, not made by any animals. Since it is made out of PU leather it still have the same great qualities of being foldable and voluminous just like the luxury brand. And just like the luxury brand, there are no logos to distinguish the two, unless you are up close and can feel the texture then you’ll notice that the budget friendly option isn’t as soft.
Do you like this new trend?
So, what are your thoughts on this new bag trend? Would you invest in the luxury brand or is the budget friendly just fine? How would you style it?
